Dr. Gunar Baier, CFO AAT Group
After having received his PhD in Physics in 1988, Dr. Baier started his career joining ABB Corporate Research to work as project and department manager in industrial research, mainly concerning research in sensor and process control technologies. In 1998 Dr. Baier became head of Product Management and R&D at ABB Airport Technologies GmbH. Later on, he took responsibility for R&D in ABB ́s Business Area Logistics, including airports, postal automation, warehouse management and harbor crane systems. At that time, his team started the development of the world-first robot-based solution for automated loading of airport passenger baggage.
When ABB decided to quit the airport-related business, Dr. Baier took over the baggage loading development and founded his own start-up company in 2003 in order to finalize the development and to start with the market entry (Onero GmbH). This company was taken over by the Grenzebach Group and merged with two other companies to Grenzebach Automation GmbH in 2006.
In addition to pushing forward the airport business, starting with a first pilot installation at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and having reached operative installations at 3 of Europe ́s top 5 airports today, Dr. Baier became Director of Finance & Administration at Grenzebach Automation GmbH with responsibility for finance, business administration, contract management, patent issues and HR.
When AAT Automation GmbH took over the airport business from Grenzebach, Dr. Baier became Director of Finance/CFO and Director Airport for AAT Automation GmbH.
Still being highly interested in research and latest stage technology, he is privately engaged as scientific advisor for the EU program “Information and Communication Technologies / Robotics”.
